How does poverty influence the prevalence of human trafficking? A recent report from the International Organization for Migration, which was commissioned to guide development in the EU in its European Regional Strategy, asked whether human trafficking is increasing: if so, how does it affect the populations displaced by such actions? The current evidence that human trafficking is increasing suggests this is not the case.
